Farm workers arrested for allegedly killing farmer, burning his wife during robbery
The Limpopo police killed one suspect and arrested another after an alleged robbery and murder at a farm in Dwalboom near Thabazimbi. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, 6 September.
DEADLY FARM ATTACK
An unknown number of attackers allegedly broke into the Dwalboom Vygeeboompoort farmhouse at approximately 2:00. The farmer, who has been identified as MG Richter, was killed and his wife was burnt with an unknown object.
“They then ransacked the house and took two plasma television sets, firearms, cellphones, tools and other items. The suspects loaded the robbed items into the victims’ VW Amarok and fled the scene,” said South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.
ONE SUSPECT KILLED IN SHOOTOUT
The matter was reported to the police who received word that the stolen vehicle was spotted near Bela Bela.
Members cornered the bakkie along Potgieter Street, Bela Bela and ordered the driver to stop. Instead, the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police and a shootout broke out.
“One of the suspects was fatally shot and the second one was injured and arrested. The vehicle, five firearms including a toy gun, live rounds of ammunition, two plasma TV sets, two cell phones and tools were recovered,” said the police spokesperson.
The suspects were identified and both are believed to have been employed at the same Dwalboom farm. Meanwhile, the police are investigating whether other people were involved in the attack.
