The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says it’s not worried about the possible objection of its leader, former president Jacob Zuma, from featuring on its candidate list for Parliament.

Rules are clear: Jacob Zuma is ineligible for Parliament seat – political analyst

The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says it’s not worried about the possible objection of its leader, former president Jacob Zuma, from featuring on its candidate list for Parliament.

However, according to an independent political analyst, Melanie Verwoerd, the party and its supporters have every reason to worry because the South African Constitution is clear on Zuma’s fate.

“As far as I know, you can’t go to Parliament once you have had a sentence of longer than 12 months without an option of a fine,” said Verwoerd on Monday, 11 March.

Joburg CBD operation: R9 million counterfeit goods seized

Police confirmed over R 9 million counterfeit goods were seized in a huge operation in Joburg CBD on Friday.

The operation was led by he national counterfeit unit and included officials from the South African Revenue Service, Gauteng Metro Police, brand protectors, crime prevention wardens and security companies.

Weather Service warns against increased heat exhaustion risk

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) warns against an increased heat exhaustion risk, as Southern Africa faces more potential heatwaves in some of its provinces.

Heat exhaustion and dehydration are dangerous, and often associated with exposure to high temperatures. Temperatures are rising to above thirty degrees, making heatstroke a real potential risk.
