A recent security video on social media platform X looks to alert South African consumers about criminals targeting bank cards with the tap-to-pay (also called tap-and-go) contactless payment functionality.

The viral video was shared by Crime Watch’s Yusuf Abramjee and shows a woman falling victim to the crime while using her bank card to pay for her items at an unnamed store.

In the video, the criminal “allows” the victim to pay first, even though he was ahead of her in the queue. Unaware of what is about to happen next, the victim goes ahead of the criminal to pay for her goods.

JUST IN: Court to hear Thabo Bester and Nandipha’s applications against Showmax

MultiChoice has confirmed that the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg will hear the last-minute applications by convicted criminal Thabo Bester and Dr Nandipha Magadumana to stop Showmax from airing the four-part documentary Tracking Thabo Bester on Friday, 15 March.

Coincidentally, this is the same day the documentary is set to premiere on the streaming service Showmax.

The National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Advocate Shamila Batohi has reportedly signed the necessary documentation to start the extradition process of two suspects allegedly linked to the murder of ward-winning rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes from Eswatini.

The two men are allegedly linked to the murders of Forbes and his friend Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane who were gunned down on 10 February 2023 on Florida Road in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. They were arrested in Mbabane, Eswatini for separate matters.

COVID-19 SRD payment dates for March 2024

SASSA has released March payment dates for the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant).

Government has extended the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) until March 2025 while it considers social security policy reforms and a funding model.

The grant was introduced to support low-income individuals affected by the lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic.

MASSIVE internet outage – here is what you need to know

South Africa experienced a MASSIVE internet outage TODAY. 

According to a report by MyBroadBand, multiple outages on undersea cables near Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire are causing downtime. The West Africa Cable System (WACS), the Africa Coast to Europe (ACE), and other cables are affected.
