Limpopo Health MEC offers support after fatal ambulance crash

Limpopo Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba voiced profound sorrow following a harrowing head-on collision involving an ambulance and an SUV, resulting in the tragic loss of both drivers.

The collision unfolded on the R81 Road at the Lemondokop turn as the ambulance rushed to an accident scene in Belevue village.

In the wake of the tragedy, the lone survivor among the ambulance crew, an Ambulance Assistant, is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.

Ambulance crash highlights healthcare risks

Ramathuba stated, “This incident is a stark reminder of the risks and challenges faced by emergency responders and healthcare professionals in the line of duty.”

Furthermore, expressing solidarity with emergency responders, Ramathuba emphasised the inherent dangers encountered by those on the frontlines of healthcare.

Moreover, alongside the Ambulance Assistant, three patients from the ambulance and three occupants of the SUV survived the collision and are receiving medical care at various hospitals.

Additionally, Ramathuba affirmed her intention to personally visit the hospital to extend support and well-wishes to the resilient Assistant.

Health Department offers condolences to the affected families

The Department of Health extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased drivers and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting all those affected by the tragedy.

EWN has reported that the South African Emergency Personnel’s Union has issued a call to the Limpopo Department of Health department, urging them to provide counseling services to emergency medical services (EMS) officials who may be affected with the emotional toll of losing two of their fellow members.

Additionally, the visit to the hospital by MEC Ramathuba underscores appreciation for the dedication and sacrifices of ambulance emergency personnel across the province. It reminds us of the tough situations faced by health care workers committed to saving lives in dangerous conditions.
