Pitso announces contract ending – Kaizer Chiefs to pounce?

Has Pitso Mosimane just put Kaizer Chiefs management under massive pressure? The legendary coach has announced the end of his contract with Abha Club. The club was relegated after losing 2-1 to Al-Hazm on Monday night.

It was the final match of the season. Abha needed a win against the relegated Al-Hazm on Monday night. Mosimane’s side opened the scoring through Ahmed Abdu Jaber on 47 minutes. Hazm equalised on the 58th minute through Muhhamed Badamosi, before Mohhamed Al-Thani delivered the crushing winner on the 80th minute to relegate Abha. Mosimane, who is heavily linked with Kaizer Chiefs, confirmed during the post-match conference that his deal with Abha is done.

“I took a risk and came to a team at the bottom of the league,” Mosimane said as quoted by Austin Ditlhobolo.

“I knew it was a difficult task, but I had hope when we got out of the danger zone three times.
“Everything must be accepted, and my contract with the club expires today, ” Mosimane concluded.

In the meantime, one of the latest local reports has claimed that Mosimane is one of two final names that Amakhosi bosses are set to make a decision on to coach Kaizer Chiefs next season.

Depending on availability and affordability, Soccer Laduma has reported that the Soweto giants will appoint Mosimane or Petro de Luanda‘s Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos, who is set to lift his third-consecutive league title with the Angolan giants.

“To tell you the truth, there are many meetings going on now at the club concerning the coaches. But the latest is that the likelihood of Pitso Mosimane and Alexandre Santos will be one of the coaches,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“I am telling you that the committee looking at who the coach could be has narrowed their net to these two. Here is the catch or the problem. Who will be available at the start of the seasons? Will Petro de Luanda release Santos or will Abha Club hold onto Pitso if he avoids relegation with them in Saudi Arabia? It will all boil done to availability and also affordability,” the source added on the Kaizer Chiefs meeting.

“You know coach Pitso normally comes with his team and we understand Santos also has other technical team members he wants to come with. That’s where the issue of affordability comes in. Which of the two will the club [Kaizer Chiefs] afford? But as it stands, the fight is between the two of them now,” the source added.

According to the report, Amakhosi are keen to appoint a domimant figure.

“That’s what they want. A coach who will command respect of players, technical team and everyone at the club. And they feel if it comes to that then Pitso has that. But will he be available? Let’s wait for what his club will say first. Yes, his contract ends at the end of the season but what if they renew if he avoids relegation? Then Alexandre Santos remains the favourite in that case,” a second source reported on the Kaizer Chiefs plans.
