Broos gives advice to Mofokeng’s agent amid overseas interest

Orlando Pirates youngster Relebohile Mofokeng has been the subject of interest abroad since early in the season.

The interest in Mofokeng includes teams both Europe as well as Africa, with the ball now in Pirates’ court.

Mofokeng has just completed his first full season as a first team player, at Pirates. During the campaign, Mofokeng played in a total of 38 matches, where he had 11 goal contributions for the club. Those exploits have not gone unnoticed, as the interest continues to pour in, along side the praises. This publication has previously reported that there have been clubs inquiring about the teenager throughout the season.

Mofokeng has attracted plenty of overseas interest

At the start of the season, Pirates were transparent enough to reveal that Mofokeng had left for assessments at Wolverhampton. The English Premier League side have been mum about their final decision on the player. That has only opened the door for fellow British outfit Glasgow Rangers to put their best foot forward. They are believed to want him without a trial, with the Scottish giants also regarded as favourites.

Elsewhere in Europe, Red Bull Salzburg are also thought to have shown a keen interest in the 19-yea-old. Many seem to signal they would preferrer this move for Mofokeng, as the Austrian Bundesliga side are known to give youngsters a chance. They then find a way to ship them off to bigger clubs in stronger leagues. Should he want to stay on the continent, Al Ahly would love to have him alongside fellow South African Percy Tau.

Those clubs are not the only interest Mofokeng has received however. He was recently called up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the first time in his career. At the naming of the squad, Broos was asked up the skilful winger’s situation with regards to overseas interest. He referenced the Cassius Mailula situation and warning.

Broos believes he should stay at Pirates

“You see what happened with Mailula? He came in to Toronto, and there were two former Italian internationals, and what are you going to do with a little guy from South Africa there? He did play one game two months ago and the rest he’s on the bench. What is he learning there? I hope the agent of Mofokeng is cleaver more than the one of Mailula.” Said the Broos as per FARPost.

What should Mofokeng do? Go abroad at 19 or wait at Pirates for another season?
