Why Kaizer Chiefs are delaying a Nabi announcement

Nasreddine Nabi is the red-hot favourite to take the Kaizer Chiefs head coach role. The club can’t announce a deal quite yet though.

Why Kaizer Chiefs are delaying an announcement on Nasreddine Nabi

According to SABC Sport, Nasreddine Nabi is the hot favourite to become the next Chiefs head coach, head and shoulders above the other leading candidates. This is via the public broadcaster:

“There have been some developments regarding Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit to appoint a new coach, and SABC Sport has established Nasreddine Nabi is again the overwhelming favourite for the hot seat,” the report said.

“The public broadcaster has been informed that Nabi is instead head and shoulders above the rest of the candidates, with the previous stumbling block that prevented the Tunisian from joining Chiefs no longer in the way.

“Information gathered by SABC Sport suggests Amakhosi are respectfully waiting for the Botola Pro League to conclude before finalising a deal that will see Nabi become their new head coach.

According to the same report, Chiefs are willing to pay compensation to AS FAR. Nabi remains contracted until June 2025 with the Moroccan outfit.

Amakhosi need to build on a woeful campaign

A tenth-place finish and failure to qualify for next season’s MTN8 is far below what was expected of the club in 2023-2024. It’s the worst DStv Premiership finishing position in their history.

Wholesale technical changes on the horizon?

According to SoccerLaduma, the Amakhosi board will shake things up at all levels of the club this winter. 2023-2024 was Chiefs’ worst-ever finish in the DStv Premiership. The club is in advanced negotiations with Nabi to become the new head coach. Furthermore, all technical staff have been informed that nobody’s job is safe for 2024-2025. Dillon Sheppard, Aubrey Mathibe, Rainer Dinkerlacker and Bhekumuzi Maluleka are all unsure of their jobs. The same goes for the club’s performance analysts.

“Now, the latest news reaching the crew’s desk is that Sifiso Hlanti could be one of the first players to leave the club. The 34-year-old has been on the books of the club since 2021 but the crew understands that his time at Chiefs could be coming to an end”, wrote Soccer-Laduma.
