RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said firefighters were in attendance and in the process of recovering the bodies of four people trapped in the wreckage of a Toyota (model unknown). A fifth individual from the vehicle was lying under a Mercedes Benz Actros.

Balram said a witness told them that the light motor vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed from KwaMashu in the direction of Avoca Hills. The driver allegedly failed to negotiate a bend and collided with a metal barrier. The car became airborne and landed in the contraflow lane.

“One occupant was ejected. The vehicle was crushed by a truck & trailer that was travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries,” Balram said.
