Oswin Appollis’s 40-yard pass that led to Morena’s goal

Oswin Appollis produced a 40-yard pass to find Thapelo Morena who sealed a 3-1 win for Bafana Bafana against Zimbabwe.

The 22-year-old midfielders displayed an outstanding performance against the Warriors on Tuesday evening at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein. Bafana came into the match needing a win after their disappointing draw against Nigeria on Friday.

Appollis and Morena inspired Bafana to a 3-1 win

The home side drew first blood after Iqraam Rayners pounced from a Zimbabwe mistake. A minute later, the Warriors equalised after they caught the Bafana defence napping. With both sides locked on 1-1 at halftime, Hugo Broos made a change, bringing on Morena for Elias Mokwana

Morena and Appollis caused havoc on both flanks with Zimbabwe struggling to contain them. Bafana found the breakthrough nine minutes into the second half when Warriors’ keeper Godfrey Chitsumba made a mistake.

Appollis delivered a cross which the Zim keeper failed to clear allowing Mokwena to take advantage. Broos’ men managed the game from then on and in the 76th minute, Morena scored his second of the match.

Oswin Appollis produced a 40-yard pass to find Morena who rounded off Chitsumba to make it 3-1 to see Bafana home against Zimbabwe. A win sees Bafana top Group C alongside Benin and Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Hugo Broos’ men will only be in action for the qualifiers next year in March. A win puts them four points clear of Nigeria, who has struggled in the qualifiers thus far.

Bafana back to winning ways

After the win, Bafana fans praised them, especially Morena and Appollis. The Mamelodi Sundowns star was awarded Man of the Match following his brace.
