Retire or keeping playing? Andile Jali makes final decision!

Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates midfielder Andile Jali has made a decision on his career.

Jali last played for Soweto giants Moroka Swallows in 2023 but was part of their mass exodus in January 2024.

Midfielder was contemplating playing career

Jali was thought to have been part of the Swallows contingent that went on strike last year. This strike saw the Swallows players withdraw from their last two games of 2023, which proved costly to the club. The PSL ended up fining the Dube Birds a cool R1 million for failing to honour those fixtures. They did, however, receive the leniency of having R600 000 of it suspended. With the club already cash-strapped, that was a sanction they could ill afford. They then also decided to take action on the players who had decided against playing, effectively firing them. Furthermore, the league granted three points to both of their opponents, Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.

Since then, Jali has been on the sidelines, without a club, with the prolonged wait drawing speculation on his playing future. His agent Mike Makaab had also hinted that the veteran midfielder was at a crossroads in his career. Now as it was all thought to be hanging in the balance, a decision has now been confirmed.

Jali decides to play on!

“What Andile has decided, and I think you are probably the first person I have spoken to, is that he wants to continue playing. The minute Andile wants to continue playing, the first thing he does is that he gets himself physically and mentally into the right shape. Last week, on Thursday, him and I had our final discussion and he is 100 percent into continuing with his career. So, we will start engaging clubs and see what the interest is. It’s got to be a good project for both parties.” Said Makaab to Soccer-Laduma.

With age no longer on his side, and very little football in the past 12 months, it remains to be seen who Jali joins.
