Mama Joy claps back at Renaldo Gouws: ‘I’ve signed the petition’

Joy Chauke – also known as Mama Joy – has fired back at the DA’s Renaldo Gouws, whose racist and homophobic video rants have resurfaced on social media.

The outspoken social media commentator has criticised the sports fan over her receiving multiple government-sponsored trips to attend events abroad.

Over the weekend, a petition to remove Gouws as a member of parliament has received over 50,000 signatures. Gouws has since posted a formal apology.

Like many other South Africans, Mama Joy has used her social media account to call out Renaldo Gouws. This includes signing a Chane.org petition demanding his removal from parliament.

The sports fan tweeted: “You don’t talk about Mama Joy, and nothing happen[s]…for sure you are scared @RenaldoGouws.”

Chauke added that she had signed the petition and encouraged others to do so too.

Renaldo Gouws and Mama Joy reignited their X beef after the latter hinted that another free trip abroad was on the cards for her.

The sports fan tweeted a picture of herself with the caption: “I can’t wait, guys, Olympics in Paris.”

Chauke was referring to the Summer Olympics, which will take place from 26 July to 11 August in Paris, France.

Along with many other South Africans, Gouws called out the woman for receiving numerous sponsored trips by the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture should be cut short.

In recent years, it has included the Fifa World Cup in Qatar, the Rugby World Cup in France, and the Cricket World Cup in India.

Gouws tweeted: “Snowball’s chance in hell. Unless you pay your own way”.

Defending his comments, he continued: “Gravy Train has derailed. She can work and earn a salary and then use that money to travel the world.

“The kids who could have received that money for kits care, the kids who actually deserve to be uplifted and deserve that allocation of funds. Not this professional clown parading as a superfan.”

Last year, Gouws – via AfriForum –  demanded the department reveal information behind Mama Joy’s trip to the Rugby World Cup. The investigation revealed that over R1 million had been spent to send both Mama Joy and fellow fan Botha Msila to France, which included flights, accommodation, and other expenses.

Meanwhile, Renaldo Gouws has apologised to South Africans over the backlash to his old racially charged and homophobic videos.

The 41-year-old claimed that the videos were filmed in 2009 when he was still a young student.

He also claimed that his comments do not reflect who he is.

He tweeted: “I refute any claims of racism or being a racist. I can, however, see how my message was distorted in the way it was delivered by me and I take full responsibility for the actions of my younger and immature self.

“For that, I apologise unreservedly.”
