Two exciting stars linked, ideal formation revealed!

Orlando Pirates have a few pieces to add to a puzzle they hope will become a title-winning combination.

Orlando Pirates missing pieces XI with potential new signings

Sipho Chaine; Kegan Johannes, Olisa Ndah, Tapelo Xoki; Thabiso Monyane, Thalente Mbatha, Grant Margeman, Deon Hotto; Relebohile Mofokeng; Tshegofatso Mabasa, Evidence Makgopa.

A 3-4-1-2 would allow Jose Riveiro to deploy three of his outstanding central defenders as the Buccaneers are stacked in that position. Having the likes of Thabiso Sesane and Tapelo Xoki on the bench is a luxury that would be afforded to him, should the club pull off a deal for SuperSport’ Kegan Johannes. This formation would get the prodigiously talented Relebohile Mofokeng into the side as a number 10, behind two central strikers with very different skill sets. A dream move for Grant Margeman would give the Bucs central midfield duo a dynamic and youthful look. There’s also the option of using Kabelo Dlamini, experienced hardman Makhehlene Makhaula off the bench. What about Patrick Maswanganyi? Let’s discuss him in more detail.

Casualties inevitable

Of course, with a few new names arriving and two strikers in the team, key players will be left out. Patrick Maswanganyi was a key operator last season. His tally of five goals and five assists in 27 league matches doesn’t tell the story of how instrumental the 27-year-old is to the Pirates machine. In all likelihood, Jose Riveiro will accommodate him at someone else’s expense. As they say, this is a great problem to have. Intense competition for places across the pitch is turning the Buccaneers into credible title contenders.

Time may be up for Monnapule Saleng

There’s never been much doubt about Saleng’s ability. However, the Pirates technical team cannot ignore his drop-off in 2023-2024 after a scintillating 2022-2023. At his best, he’s a superb match-winner but we haven’t seen enough of that version lately. If a big offer comes in, now might be the time to cash in on the wide man. If Deon Hotto also leaves, the club will be losing considerable experience and big personalities. That will need to be addressed in the transfer market, with midfield duo Thabang Monare and Fortune Makaringe already departed.

Will Jose Riveiro be cutthroat in his squad management this winter?
