Worst signing ever? Kaizer Chiefs drop flop after just one season!

Kaizer Chiefs have begun their clear out and it starts with a striker that was on loan to the club.

Chiefs struggled in front of goal during the season and have clearly prioritised refreshing their attack for the next campaign.

At the beginning of the season, Chiefs brought in four attacking players, Ranga Chivaviro, Jasond Gonzalez, Pule Mmodi and Tebogo Potsane. The previous season they had signed three in Ashley du Preez, Christian Saile and Caleb Bimenyimana. On paper all of these attackers may have made sense, but none have or did set the scene alight at Naturena.

Chiefs have invested in frontline

Bimenyimana was released after one season, while Chivaviro only managed four goals all season. That was the same number for Saile and Mmodi, while Du Preez top scored with six. The duo of Gonzalez and Potsane did not score a single goal for Chiefs last season. It was then no surprise when the Colombian striker was already linked with an exit.

Gonzalez was signed by Chiefs on a season-long loan at the start of the season, and came with a big reputation. This after having nine goal contributions in 17 games for his local side Real Santa Cruz. But after failing to find the back of the net during his time in South Africa, he has been shown the door at Amakhosi.

Efmamjjasond González will not return to Kaizer Chiefs, after the club decided against making the deal permanent.

He was on loan from Bolivian club, Real Santa Cruz.”. Wrote Unplayable on their X account.

Gonzalez gone!

Chiefs are rumoured to be actively looking to bolster their attack for next season. They have been linked with the likes of Iqraam Rayners, Lebo Mothiba, Luther Singh, Elias Mokwana and Diego Appollis. With all of the above being Bafana Bafana internationals, it’s clear that Chiefs are trying to avoid another Gonzales situation.
