Second Mamelodi Sundowns exit CONFIRMED!

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena has confirmed the departure of Abubeker Nassir.

Nassir joined the Brazilians with high expectations however injuries plagued his time at the club.

The 24-year-old joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2022 from Ethiopian Coffee FC. The speedy winger was allowed to remain at his former club until the end of the 2021/22 season.

He then linked up with Sundowns in June however despite showing glimpses of his raw talent, he ultimately failed to find any momentum due to persistent injury issues.

Abubeker Nassir made just 17 appearances for Mamelodi Sundowns, scoring four goals. And now, Rhulani Mokwena has given a surprise update on his future at the club.

Nassir’s Mamelodi Sundowns journey comes to an end!

“He’s not a Mamelodi Sundowns player, so I don’t want to talk about Abubeker Nassir because he’s not a Sundowns player,” Rhulani Mokwena said on PowerFM as quoted by IDiski Times.

“He’s not registered as a Sundowns player. So I don’t talk about who are not Sundowns players.”

Bongani Zungu has also left the Brazilians, while more exits are expected to follow at Chloorkop.

In other news, Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly extended the contract of Rivaldo Coetzee.

The 27-year-old utility midfielder joined the club in 2017 from Ajax Cape Town following a failed moved to Scottish giants Celtic due to medical reasons.

The former Ajax Cape Town star’s contract was due to come to a close at the end of the season.

Coetzee has made 125 appearances for Sundowns and now, reports suggest he’ll be around next season to add to that!

Sundowns extend Coetzee’s contract

“There were rumors that he might leave Sundowns when his contract expires in the end of June but iDiski Times understands that Sundowns have triggered the option in the contract of Coetzee, which will see the midfield maestro staying at Mamelodi Sundowns until at least June 2025,” – the publication reported.
