‘My girlfriend is always there for me’

Mamelodi Sundowns star Mothobi Mvala could have easily lost belief in himself last season but his mental strength and girlfriend gets him through the storms.

Mvala has been celebrated as much as he has been slammed. The Theunissen-born star was blamed for losing posssession against Cape Town City in the final game of the season where Jayden Rhodes went through to score to mark Sundowns’ only defeat of the season.

According to the 30-year-old defender, publicised mistakes are part of the game.

“It’s something (mistakes) that happens to everyone. Not everyone will like you and it’s the nature of our profession or any athlete in the world,” the Sundowns defender said via the Citizen.

“If we don’t do well or make mistakes, these things will always come up. We are just unfortunate that we do our work publicly and people are watching and they can say whatever they want. You just have to be strong as long as you have your family by your side.

Mvala added to say that he always finds support from his girlfriend, mother and Sundowns teammates.

“My girlfriend is always there for me, my mother and teammates so they help me to recover quickly. That’s what helps me but I don’t put it in my head and I’m not on social media. I don’t see all these things although I know there are things people are saying but I really don’t see them and I don’t care to be honest,” Mvala concluded.

Mamelodi Sundowns star Tashreeq Matthews arrived in Tshwane from Sweden. The former Ajax Cape Town star says it has been tough.

Matthews left Cape Town as a teenage to test himself in Europe at places like Borrusia Dortmund in Germany. Fast forward a few years and the Hanover Park-born star was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns from Sirius in Sweden.

“It wasn’t the easier period for me because there’s a lot of quality [players] around in the team – everyone has to work hard. But if you are willing to work hard then the guys are ready to help you find your way into the team,” Matthews said after making 17 appearances that included four goals and one assist.

“Of course, I had to spend time with the coach. If you don’t know certain things you have to go to the coach and tell him so he can explain to you in more detail what he wants in the system,” the Sundowns attacker added – READ THE FULL STORY HERE.
