Fikile Mbalula has just announced the Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi will announce his provincial Cabinet today (3 July 2024).

This announcement comes after two postponements over the naming of members of the executive council (MECs).

“We assure South Africans that the soon to be appointed Gauteng Government of Provincial Unity will be expected to immediately get to down to work on the pressing issues facing the Gauteng province and our people,” Mbalula says.

“The ANC confirms that we had an extensive engagement yesterday [Tuesday] with the DA which was conducted in a frank and open spirit aimed at giving effect to the democratic mandate of the people following the 2024 national and provincial elections,” says Mbalula.

Mbalula’s address comes as rumours swirled that Luthuli House, the ANC national leaders, was imposing the Democratic Alliance onto the ANC in Gauteng.

However, ANC Gauteng secretary TK Nciza denied this on Monday.

Fikile Mbalula is reading a prepared statement. He is accompanied by ANC Gauteng chairperson and provincial premier, Panyaza Lesufi.

On Tuesday, the DA said it was willing to negotiate with the ANC in Gauteng despite bickering over positions.

ANC secretary-general Fikie Mbalula is addressing the media over the issues that have stopped Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi from constituting his provincial executive.

This after he was installed as premier over two weeks ago, after the 29 May elections.
