Gauteng to experience the coldest day of the year on Monday as cold front sweeps across the country

Cold days have returned and Gauteng residents are urged to keep warm as the cold front makes way into the northern parts of the country this weekend.

On Thursday, the South African Weather Services warned that a series of cold fronts were set to hit the country in the coming days. Forecasts indicated minimum temperatures hovering between zero and two degrees in Gauteng from Saturday onwards.

In Gauteng, temperatures will drop signifacntly on Monday with the cold front at full swing. In Johannesburg, the mercury is expected to hover at a minimum of -4°C on Saturday, with a maximum of just 8°C.

Pretoria will see temperatures with a minimum of -1°C on Monday, and a maximum of 14°C, while Heidelburg is expected to drop to -3°C.

Intense Cold front to hit Gauteng hard in the coming days

Joburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi has urged Gauteng residents to exercise caution when using heating devices especially during the cold weather.

“Residents are urged to continue to exercise caution when using heating devices for example heaters, paraffin stoves, braizers/imbawula, not to leave them unattended while unused to prevent fire incidents at home,” he said as per EWN.

Cold front to hit Gauteng

“From our side, as the City of Joburg EMS, we remain on high alert monitoring all seven regions of the City of Johannesburg targeting our most vulnerable communities- our informal settlements- to make sure that we can effectively respond to all emergencies which might occur during this cold front,” said Mulaudzi.

The cold front is expected to last until Tuesday in Gauteng and surrounding areas.
