Another Orlando Pirates star to leave the club?

Orlando Pirates star Monnapule Saleng is reportedly on the verge of leaving the club.

This comes following a massively underwhelming 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign.

Saleng began last season as one player to watch out for following a staggering 2022/23 campaign. However, the speedy winger played second fiddle to the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi and Relebohile Mofokeng for most of the season!

Now, reports suggest Saleng is heading for the exit door due to his lack of game-time in Mayfair!

Saleng linked with Orlando Pirates exit!

“There are still few players expected to leave the club this off season and Saleng is one of them. There are just few lose ends which they are finalising on what should happen with him,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“At the moment it’s believed that he is not in the technical team plans and they would not just keep him for the sake of keeping him. They are just looking at whether to loan him because he is still under contract or agree on releasing him permanently.

“But he is believed to be one of the players to leave the team this season. I am not sure whether it will happen after the Spain trip or before that’s the one I am not sure of.”

In other news, Orlando Pirates have opened fresh negotiations with Spanish head coach Jose Riveiro.

The 46-year-old tactician joined the Buccaneers in 2022 and has enjoyed great success in his opening two seasons at the club.

Jose Riveiro helped Orlando Pirates to back-to-back MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles.

One area he has fallen short in is the DStv Premiership. Jose struggled to compete with Mamelodi Sundowns, finishing well behind them in both seasons.

His showings in the CAF Champions League have also left much to be desired however, the club have given him their full backing to come good!

Pirates pushing to keep Jose for three more years!

“They want to secure Jose’s (Riveiro) services before it’s too late. They don’t want the same scenario like the one which happened with Ruud Krool that he didn’t renew his contract after winning the treble,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.

“I can’t say it’s a done deal yet as the coach is currently on holiday but Orlando Pirates has offered him another three years and he is happy at the club as well. So, I don’t know what will stop this proposal or offer on the table.”
