‘I just feel bad for him’ – Pitso reacts to Rulani’s departure

Pitso Mosimane has reacted to Rulani Mokwena’s sudden departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 37-year-old parted ways with Masandawana despite signing a contract extension with the Tshwane giants. Millions of local soccer fans were shocked when the news broke out that Mokwena was leaving Downs. It was Rulani who won the DStv Premiership by over 70 points and was named coach of the season by the Premier Soccer League.

Pitso Mosimane worked with Rulani for six years. During their time at Downs, Mokwena worked as an assistant to ‘Jingles’ before the Kagiso-born coach left for Egypt in 2020.

“So now, the sad part is he’s let go at Sundowns, I’m not happy, you can feel my emotion,” Mosimane told SABC Sport.

“I’m not pretending, I just feel bad for him. Sundowns is a big club, Sundowns will sort themselves out. Sundowns are not about Pitso, Sundowns are not about Rulani, coaches come and go. I get emotional with this thing about Rhulani because I know Rulani,” Mosimane continued.

Pitso not happy with Rulani’s departure

“You have been there on my journey with Rulani. I was so humbled and appreciated the little bit of contribution that I put in when I came to Mamelodi Sundowns, I brought over coach Manqoba, and I brought over coach Rulani that they must help me in the process of building and making a better team that can compete in the continent that was the vision and I think we can all say that we’ve achieved that vision,” Pitso said.

“We need to give credit to the people who contributed. I didn’t do it alone, I had them on my side as my generals, my assistants to help me and they’ve helped me,” he concluded.

Can Mokwena and Mosimane work together again?

Both Pitso Mosimane and Rulani Mokwena are free agents having left their respective clubs. Jingles has made it clear that the next assignment is in Saudi Arabia. He had a short stint with Abha Club earlier this year but his efforts were not enough to save the club from relegation.
