Kermit Erasmus spotted playing football in Soweto

Former Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus is making headlines after he was spotted playing football at the Siphiwe Tshabalala Soccer Tournament over the weekend. The tournament was concluded over the weekend at the Kgotso Grounds in Phiri, Soweto.

Over the years, Siphiwe Tshabalala has undoubtedly hosted football clinics and tournaments to give young players a platform to showcase their talents.

However, to make the tournaments priceless, the former Kaizer Chiefs star often brings some of the biggest names in South African football to inspire many upcoming stars.

This year’s edition was similar to the rest, including some of the most celebrated legends, including Doctor Khumalo, Lucas Radebe, and Edward Motale. However, Siphiwe Tshabalala also invited former Orlando Pirates star Kermit Erasmus.

Young players and fans in attendance had the honour of witnessing their idols in action. A notable legends match between Betway, one of the sponsors, and a Shabba XI battled it out.

The match was capped with some eKasi flair. A host of stars, including Thuso Phala and Reneilwe Letshlonyane, participated in the game. Surprisingly, all of them wore the green and gold of Bafana Bafana.

However, Kermit Erasmus is topping trends against the backdrop of the tournament. His command of the game has since thrust him into the top trends. Photos and videos of the star in action have gained thousands of comments and reactions.

The tournament comes a month after the Soweto giants released the star. Last month, Orlando Pirates released Kermit Erasmus. The 34-year-old netted once from 11 appearances in the previous season. His second stint with Orlando Pirates was not as colourful as many thought it would be, leading to his unsurprising exit.

Confirming Kermit Erasmus’ exit, the Soweto giants posted, “Kermit rejoined the Buccaneers in 2022 after nine years away and made an immediate impact by helping us clinch the MTN8 title. With over 117 matches under his belt in Pirates colours, Romeo has solidified his legendary status at the club.”

However, the statement also bid Thabang Monare, Siyabonga Mpontshane, and Richard Ofori farewell. Many supporters are still coming to terms with Kermit Erasmus’s exit.

Against his exit, the former Orlando Pirates star Kermit Erasmus took a swipe at the Soweto giants. Last week, he was trending after his solo training sessions made rounds on the internet. He has also been linked with several clubs, including SuperSport United.
