Tweeps call for Gayton McKenzie to remove Danny Jordaan from SAFA

South Africans have been engaging with Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie’s social media page since he was appointed Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture.

Since his appointment earlier this month, the 50-year-old politician has pledged changes within his department.

McKenzie tweeted on Tuesday that all trips for super fans have been halted. The tweet received positive reactions from many South Africans, who called for more transparency regarding the use of funds.

“I have stopped all trips for super fans, we have athletes and artists who are struggling to raise money to attend sporting events and exhibitions, how do we justify paying for fans?

“We shall no longer be paying for these trips and will use that money where it’s needed the most,” he wrote.

But Gayton McKenzie didn’t stop there. On Wednesday, his department published a list of artists who have benefited from the Covid-19 relief fund. Starting his tenure on a positive note, some soccer fans requested that the minister remove South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan from his role. Jordaan has held the position since 2013.
