Rulani Mokwena joins African giants!

Rulani Mokwena has been officially named as Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club’s new head coach.

Mokwena left Mamelodi Sundowns in a rather surprise move following the completion of last season.

Mokwena led the Brazilians to the league title as well as the inaugural African Football League title! He narrowly missed out on the Nedbank Cup, finishing as runner’s up as well as the MTN8.

Less than two weeks after his Mamelodi Sundowns departure, Rulani Mokwena is back in the hot-seat! This time, at three-time CAF Champions League champions Wydad!

Rulani Mokwena named as Wydad’s new head coach

Wydad Athletic Club took to social media to confirm the arrival of Mokwena to the club.

According to Kora Maroc, Rulani Mokwena has been offered a bumper deal at the 22-time Moroccan league champions.

Mokwena has been offered a bumper salary of over R380 000 (210 000 Moroccan Dirhams) per month!

“It was mutually decided to separate and I didn’t want to leave. My hand was forced. There are a lot of things but I can’t talk about [it] because I’ve signed a confidentiality clause that prohibits me speaking about some of the details. There are things I can’t disclose because if I do, I’d get into a lot of trouble,” Rulani Mokwena said in an emotional interview with Robert Marawa regarding his Mamelodi Sundowns exit.

Mokwena’s departure marks the end of a dynamic chapter at the Brazilians, however Steve Komphela has since returned as an assistant coach while Manqoba Mngqithi looks likely to remain part of the coaching staff for next season.
