Orlando Pirates open talks with ex-Sundowns ace

Orlando Pirates have reportedly set their sights on a recently departed Mamelodi Sundowns man!

The Buccaneers are working hard to reinforce their squad for next season.

Jose Riveiro’s side lifted both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles last season however they fell far short in the DStv Premiership and CAF Champions League.

And now, in their effort to bolster their squad up, Orlando Pirates have reportedly opened talks with former Mamelodi Sundowns star Gaston Sirino!

Orlando Pirates open talks with Gaston Sirino – Report

“The indications at the moment is that although Sirino is in his country they are talking to him through his representatives and that things are looking positive,” an insider told Soccer Laduma.

“For now I can’t say much about what is happening with Kaizer Chiefs but as for Pirates they want to bring him in as soon as possible.

“They would have liked him to join the team in Spain but it doesn’t look possible due to time limitations as well as visas. But he is expected to come to South Africa as soon as he can.”

In other news, Orlando Pirates Diski Challenge (DDC) side coach Joseph Makhanya has completed his CAF B coaching licence.

The former Bucs winger, who played for the club for over decade in the early 2000s, has been making great progress with the club’s reserve side.

Makhanya was handed the reigns at the beginning of the 2022/23 season. He ended up narrowly missing out on the league title in his maiden season in charge.

Last season, Orlando Pirates finished in third place on the log standings. And now, Makhanya has added to his resume by completing the CAF B licence!

The Buccaneers are yet to replace Sergio Almenara, Jose Riveiro’s assistant who left the club following the conclusion of last season.

Given Makhanya’s steady rise with the reserve team, and now that he has completed his CAF B licence, it would make perfect sense for him to make the jump up to the first team in the near future.
