DStv pulls plug on PSL title sponsorship deal

The Premier Soccer League [PSL] is actively pursuing a new title sponsor following DStv’s decision to walk away from its existing deal with the league.

This is according to an investigative report by SABC Sport, which further claims that DStv’s parent company, Multichoice, is weighing up whether to end the partnership with immediate effect or to see out the remaining one-year of the five-year deal which was agreed upon in 2020.

DStv became the league’s title sponsor four years ago in place of ABSA, who occupied that primary role for 13 years, dating back to 2007.

As per the SABC report, PSL chiefs are now scrambling to find a new title partner as soon as possible, with Betway believed to be the strongest candidate to replace DStv at the moment.

The 2024/25 Premier Soccer League season gets underway next month. Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned 2023/24 PSL champions for the sixth consecutive time.

The Premier Soccer League’s three biggest clubs are Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with the latter two arguably the being the biggest brands in African football and boasting the largest fan bases on the continent.
