Carlo Radebe gets little love from public

South Africans on social media are unimpressed by actor Carlo Radebe’s appeal for cash donations yet again. Some have even told the TV villain – known for his iconic role as Duke Ngcobo on Backstage – to get a “regular job.”

The actor, who claims to have been unemployed for the past several years, made the request via his Facebook account.

In April, Radebe made headlines after he claimed he was destitute and struggling to make ends meet.

PUBLIC UNIMPRESSED BY CARLO RADEBE’S CASH REQUEST

In a Facebook post on Monday, 12 August, Carlo Radebe revealed that he was still alive but struggling to stay afloat. He also claimed that he had run out of the ash donation from the public made in April.

He shared: “Kindly putting my hand on your heart. To boost me one more time with any donation to my account in order for me to survive my 11th hour at the gate. Have run out of your kind donations I received in April for only four days.

“Funds I had been receiving were stopped after being promised a job that was never confirmed with me or my agent and an offer for a place to live. All this hype was never confirmed and had me tossed to the wind with no apology or follow-up”.

Carlo Radebe added that he had been “left stranded and broke since the beginning of June.”

Responding to one Facebook user, Carlo revealed he was keen to work again. He posted:  “Wish to audition and work and continue so like other artists.”

While some social media users were empathetic to his financial difficulties, others encouraged him to find a “regular 9 to 5” to pay his bills.

@Dules_k76: “So he can’t even work at a retail shop, drive a taxi, or be a petrol attendant. What type of job is he looking for?”

@iamnel__: “McDonald’s is always hiring. He should also register for R350 as millions of others have done.”

@UncleBiji: “But why don’t actors just apply for jobs like the rest of us? Call centre nyana or work as a waiter?”

@Loreta1212: “He should learn some skills, maybe repair cellphones and open up a repair shop with donated money to keep him going

WHAT HAPPENED TO DONATIONS, JOB OFFER?

According to his Facebook post, Carlo Radebe claims he was given a job offer, which never materialised. He also claims he was meant to shoot another production before the May elections, but that fell through, too.

According to Zimoja, Carlo is possibly referring for an offer to grooming young talent at Duma Ndlovu Academy. Ndlovu – a producer and playwright – has promised to follow up.

He told the publication: “I don’t know all the day-to-day running of the academy, but my staff members will follow up.”
