Orlando Pirates’ promising winger joins Chippa United

Orlando Pirates winger Azola Matrose has rejoined Chippa United after two years with the Buccaneers.

The 21-year-old had a difficult spell at Pirates and was never able to make his senior debut for the Soweto giants. The young winger was kept out of the first team by a long-term injury and only featured for the BuccaneersDDC team.

Matrose was signed from Chippa as a teenager but never really got a chance to display his talent at Orlando Pirates. In a statement, Chillie Boys announced the return of Matrose.

“Chippa United FC is thrilled to announce the return of Azola Matrose, who has signed a three-year contract with a two-year option,” club chairman Chippa Mpengesi stated.

“We are excited to have him back after his transfer to Orlando Pirates FC.”

Chippa welcomes prodigal son from Orlando Pirates

“We would like to thank Orlando Pirates FC for the smooth and healthy business relationship during this transfer.

“Azola’s return marks an important moment for our club as he will play a big role in the upcoming 2024/25 Betway premiership season.”

This is not the first time that Chippa United and Orlando Pirates have exchanged players. Last season, the Buccaneers loaned out their star player Goodman Mosele to Chippa where he had a successful spell.

Will Chippa survive relegation this season?
