‘What did Jimmy Jambo do for Chiefs?’ Ex-Pirates star questions Amakhosi’s hiring criteria
Former Orlando Pirates winger has questioned the criteria Kaizer Chiefs are using to hire former players.
The 37-year-old retired footballer believes Amakhosi legends should be involved in development. Speaking on the SoccerBeat, ‘Cheeseboy’ questioned why Chiefs have Jimmy Jambo in their coaching ranks. The former Zimbabwean international is currently the head coach of Amakhosi’s under-15 team.
Jambo played for the Glamour Boys in the early 2010s but his career was cut short due to a knee injury. The former Pirates winger Mokoena said many Chiefs legends deserved the be part of the coaching system.
“I am going straight to the point my guy, What did Jimmy Jambo do for the club if I look at people I have played against at Kaizer Chiefs, I think there are other players that deserve the opportunity, I am not taking anything away from Jambo,” Mokoena said on SoccerBeat.

“But I am saying if I look at players like you (Tsepo Masilela), Shabba (Siphiwe Tshabalala), Bernard Parker, Yeye (Reneilwe Letsholonyane), Morgan Gould, and Tsiki Tsiki (Thabo Mooki) if I go back to that generation, those are the players that have the culture and the identity of the club.
“I am not saying those who are there now have not done anything for the club but what is the criteria or preference from the club to say Tsepo has done so much for us and he deserves the opportunity to go help our young stars so that they understand the culture?” Cheeseboy asked.
The former Pirates and Sundowns winger said Chiefs should not just help former players by doing them a favour. He said the hiring criteria were biased and not done on merit.
