Orlando Pirates legend welcomes two new club signings [photos]

Orlando Pirates legend Lucky Lekgwathi felt honoured after welcoming new club signings Deano van Rooyen and physical trainer Carlos Nodar Paz to his former club.

ORLANDO PIRATES LEGEND WELCOMES TWO NEW CLUB SIGNINGS

The celebrated former central defender took to social media to share photos of his priceless moments with Orlando Pirates’ new signings, taken at Orlando Stadium.

The now-viral photos have undoubtedly gained thousands of comments and reactions since they dropped on the internet.

Taking it to Instagram, Lucky Lekgwathi posted, “WELCOME TO ORLANDO PIRATES.”

The Orlando Pirates legend added, “Thank you for the opportunity to welcome Deano David van Rooyen and Carloz Nodar Paz (Ass Coach).”

Against the post, Van Rooyen quickly stamped his approval with a heart emoji. Deano van Rooyen completed his transfer from Stellenbosch to Pirates last week.

Rumour mill has it that the 27-year-old star could make his Buccaneers debut in a Caf Champions League clash against CS Disciples on Sunday.

WHY LUCKY LEKGWATHI?

However, against the now-viral photos, The South African has connected the dots on why Lucky Lekgwathi was the best Orlando Pirates legend to welcome the two signings.

Lucky Lekgwathi is, without question, one of Orlando Pirates’ most successful skippers in the modern era.

He left the club after 14 years with over 300 appearances. During his illustrious stint with the Buccaneers, he won six major honours, including two DStv Premierships and two MTN8 titles.

No doubt his big wins serve as a motivation to the 27-year-old star defender.

His transfer move has delighted many, including Lucky Lekgwathi. The signing of the ex-Stellenbosch star will undoubtedly add more options and competition in defence.

The Soweto giants already have Thabiso Letsibo, Thabiso Monyane, and Bandile Shandu. All these defenders can comfortably play right back.

The Orlando Pirates coach has since praised Deano van Rooyen, but not everyone is convinced by the move.

Former Buccaneers attacker Benedict Vilakazi revealed that his best move was to join Kaizer Chiefs rather than Orlando Pirates.

Vilakazi has it that his position has too many players, and all of them will have to fight for game time, unlike at Chiefs, where he would only face competition from Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons.

THE BIGGER PICTURE BEHIND VAN ROOYEN SIGNING

However, despite some criticism from the Orlando Pirates’ legend, the Sea Robbers coach often reveals why he signed the ex-Stellenbosch captain.

According to reports, the coach has lauded Deano van Rooyen’s experience in winning trophies as one of the main reasons the Sea Robbers brought him in.

“[He’s] experienced, he knows how to compete for trophies already from doing an excellent job in Stellenbosch.

“So, he’s going to add fantastic value in defence and attack, and hopefully, we can see soon how capable he is,” said the Orlando Pirates coach.
