Kaizer Chiefs ‘showboating’ teen shines for Amajita

Kaizer Chiefs’ teenage sensation Mfundo Vilakazi was on song for the national Under-20 team(Amajita) against Lesotho.

The 18-year-old scored in both of Amajita’s two recent friendlies against Lesotho, played last Friday and Sunday. The two matches were part of the team’s preparation for the CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the Cosafa Under-20 Championship, scheduled for next month.

The Kaizer Chiefs and Amajita star has come under fire in recent weeks for his flashy style of play. During the team’s pre-season match against Young Africans, Vilakazi was seen ‘dancing around ball’ and doing tricks despite his side being 2-0 down after half-time.

His coach Nasreddine Nabi has since come to his defence, The Chiefs coach said he had no issues with Vilakazi’s skills as long as it benefited and helped the team.

Speaking after Amajita’s win over Lesotho, the Kaizer Chiefs youngster hoped to replicate his form to help his club.

“We played well as a team with the guidance of our new coach, Mdaka,” said Vilakazi. “Each coach is different, and I enjoyed working with him. We did our best and we plan to keep on working hard to make sure we win our games and qualify for big tournaments,” he was quoted on Kaizer Chiefs website.

“I want to take the experience and hope to replicate the performance when we start the new season at Kaizer Chiefs. We will work hard to make sure that supporters are happy from the first game of the season in September,” he concluded.
