Relebohile Mofokeng’s first CAF goal

Orlando Pirates have advanced to the CAF Champions League second preliminary round, thanks to a 4-0 win over Disciples FC of Madagascar in Soweto on Friday. Relebohile Mofokeng grabbed his first goal in African football.

CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: ORLANDO PIRATES 4-0 DISCIPLES FC

Following a goalless draw in the first leg in East Africa last weekend, second-leg goals from Tshefogatso Mabasa, Mofokeng, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Karim Kimvuidi booked a place in the second round of Africa’s highest level in club football.

While Maswanganyi’s goal was a scorching curler, Mofokeng’s finish was its own special beauty. With a set of five defenders in front of him, the Sharpville-born star faked a cross, passed to Maswanganyi while running into the empty spaces, before receiving the one-two to finish.

PATRICK MASWANGANYI GETS JERSEY NUMBER 10

CAF Champions League football comes with different jersey numbers at Orlando Pirates. The Sea Robbers have given Patrick Maswanganyi the special number 10.

Ahead of the game on Friday, the Soweto giants had a chat with their attacking midfield maestro Maswanganyi about wearing number 10.

“It’s an honour to wear this number. To have the number 10 jersey is not only a childhood dream of mine but also a sense of responsibility and undertaking of the expectations that it carries,” the Orlando Pirates attacker told the club’s media.

“I have always loved the number 10 jersey ever since I was young. The first soccer shirt I ever owned was that of Real Madrid that my father had bought it for me. It was that of Figo.

“Everywhere I went, people used to call me ‘Figo’, ‘Figo’, and as a kid that sort of attention brought a smile to my face. I guess that fond memory is what cemented my relationship with that number 10 jersey,” the 26-year-old star from Tembisa concluded.
