Two Kaizer Chiefs stars jump ship for better offers?
Kaizer Chiefs will have to consider big offers for some of their established stars if they want to continue reinforcing their squad.
Kaizer Chiefs braced for big offers
It’s no secret that the Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes has a solid interest in Ashley Du Preez. With only 25 goals in 30 league games last term, Chiefs aren’t exactly in a position to let their best attackers go. However, if there’s R30 million on the table, that might change things. Chiefs spent R10 million to sign him from Stellenbosch in July 2022. In an injury-hit 2023-2024 campaign, he managed a tally of 23 league appearances with a modest return of four goals and an assist. All told he has 15 goals and seven assists from 59 appearances across all competitions.
Msimango’s senior role can’t be underestimated
With a winter of huge change in the defensive ranks, Given Msimango will be a key pillar in the side if Chiefs can keep hold of the former Ts Galaxy man. At 27, he’s entering his peak years as a central defender and his aerial prowess is unmatched at the club. He’s also a superb communicator and stylish on the ball. Standing at 1.89m tall, he’s an imposing presence. From both a qualitative and quantitative perspective, he’s one of the most valuable players on their books. He made 26 appearances in the league last term and all 30 in his final Betway Prem campaign with Galaxy, so he’s durable and reliable too.
Interest is already rattling up from Europe for his services with Spartak Moscow interested Msimango. Chiefs have brought in centre-backs Rushwin Dortley and Inacio Miguel, and left-back Bongani Sam so far this window.
Betway Premiership coming soon
The 2024-2025 season gets underway on Saturday 14 September. Defending champions Sundowns host SuperSport United while Royal AM vs Cape Town City is the other early match on the opening day. Kaizer Chiefs are away to Marumo Gallants while Orlando Pirates host Chippa. Polokwane City meets AmaZulu and Sekhukhune welcomes promoted Magesi FC to round out the action on Saturday. Sunday 15 September’s fixtures are Richards Bay vs TS Galaxy and Stellies vs Golden Arrows.
Would it be foolish to let Msimango leave the club?
