Kaizer Chiefs beaten to another target as Stellies sell to Austria
Kaizer Chiefs have been beaten to yet another target after Stellenbosch FC agreed a deal to sell Antonio van Wyk to Austria.
According to SABC Sport, Van Wyk is on his way to Austrian outfit SV Ried after a club-to-club agreement was struck.
Van Wyk, a speedy attacker, has been on the rise for Stellies since his promotion to the first team in 2021.
And it comes as no shock that even Chiefs were keeping n eye on him to try and beef up their attack.
As things stand, Chiefs are yet to bring in any new strikers, and they were slow in their attempts to lure Van Wyk from The Winelands.
Van Wyk’s pending move to SV Ried is subject to him passing his medicals as well as acquiring a work permit.
He would then become the third player to be sold for millions of Rands by Stellies after Deano van Rooyen and Iqraam Rayners.
Van Rooyen was Stellies’ captain and has joined Orlando Pirates while Rayners returned to Tshwane, this time to sign for Mamelodi Sundowns.
KAIZER CHIEFS LOSE VAN WYK TO AUSTRIAN CLUB
“SABC Sport can confirm that Stellenbosch FC winger Antonio van Wyk is set to move to Austria following a club to club agreement with SV Ried,” reports the publication.
“The transfer, however, remains subject to the junior international passing a medical and being given a work permit to allow him to travel to Europe.
“It’s understood Van Wyk was in the final year of his contract with Stellies and had attracted interest from Kaizer Chiefs, who were hoping to snap him up as a future prospect either this season or at the end of his current deal.
“But SV Ried, who campaign in the second division in Austria, moved swiftly to communicate their intentions.”
FAWAAZ BASADIEN WANTS AMAKHOSI MOVE
Still with Stellies and Chiefs, defender Fawaaz Basadien has told the club that he would love to move to Naturena as reported on The South African website.
This is according to Basadien’s agent Basia Michaels who told SABC Sport that his client is eager to join Amakhosi this term.
According to Michaels, Basadien explained to his employers that playing for Chiefs is an opportunity he wants to pursue.
Chiefs submitted a bid for Basadien but their offer was rejected by Stellies, and they then switched focus to other players.
Riaan Hanamub of AmaZulu is a reported target for Chiefs but the Durban-based side is reluctant to sell him.
As things stand, Chiefs have two new left-backs in Bongani Sam and Rushwin Dortley, and it’s unclear if they still keen on Basadien.
