Orlando Pirates goalkeeper set to join ABC Motsepe League side!
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper is set to join ABC Motsepe League side, according to iDiski Times.
Pirates shot stopper Sphamandla Gumede is on the verge of transferring to Pele Pele FC, a third tier team. Gumede, who spent last season on loan at Orbit College in the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC), struggled for game time and did not return to the MFC team.
With Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi ahead of him in the goalkeeper hierarchy at Pirates, Gumede’s chances of breaking into the first team appear slim. He has also been absent from Pirates’ pre-season activities.
Currently, Gumede is training with Pele Pele FC, a feeder team for Orlando Pirates that competes in South Africa’s third division. This move will see him return to the ABC Motsepe League, where he previously led Dondol Stars to a league title and promotional playoffs, although they did not achieve promotion.
Nathan Paulse praises Saleng’s in MTN8
In other news, former Ajax Cape Town striker Nathan Paulse has lauded Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng for his stellar performance in the MTN8. Saleng delivered a Man-of-the-Match performance, scoring once and assisting in a 3-1 victory over SuperSport United, helping the Buccaneers advanced to the Cup semi-finals alongside Stellenbosch FC, Cape Town City, and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Paulse, who won the MTN8 with Urban Warriors in 2015, spoke to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 168 of the newspaper. He noted that Saleng appeared exceptionally sharp, as if he had never taken a break. “They [Orlando Pirates] showed their class and pedigree,” Paulse said. “And I must say there were a few players in that team that looked like they never had an off-season. For example, it never looked as though [Monnapule] Saleng had a break. He looked like he was playing all the time because he was super sharp, he was fit and he was everywhere.”
Performance Impresses early in the season
Paulse highlighted that despite the typical lower intensity of the first game of the season, Saleng’s performance was particularly impressive.
Stay tuned with The South African as the Orlando Pirates goalkeeper set to find a new home in the lower leagues of South African football. And Saleng regains his form from two seasons ago.
