Kaizer Chiefs need a specific defender to leave, why?
Kaizer Chiefs need a defender to leave amid squad overhaul, according to Soccer Laduma.
Chiefs face uncertainty over Edmilson Dove’s future after recent squad changes, raising questions about his role and potential departure.
The future of Edmilson Dove at Kaizer Chiefs is under scrutiny following the club’s signing of Inacio Miguel. Sources have revealed that Chiefs may not register Dove for the first round of the season due to his ongoing injury. Insiders suggest the club is considering parting ways with the former Cape Town City centre-back, who might be deemed surplus to requirements.
An insider shared, “After acquiring Inacio Miguel, Chiefs believe they have enough defenders and apparently don’t need Dove at all this season. The unfortunate part is that Dove renewed his contract for another year when they recalled him from the Mozambique COSAFA Cup team. He went to Turkey for the off-season camp where he got injured. That injury could be the stumbling block, and they are working on his exit. They are planning to release him permanently this season, even before his new contract ends in June next year.”
Financial strain and wage bill cuts: Why Dove might be let go
A second source indicated that Chiefs are trimming their wage bill and that keeping an injured player like Dove could be financially burdensome. With new signings inflating the salary bill, the team is exploring ways to balance their finances. “Dove is one of the higher earners at Chiefs. And with the recent influx of new signings, the salary bill has increased, straining the team’s finances. They are looking to let him go and might consider loaning or selling other players to balance the books,” the source explained.
Kaizer Chiefs’ squad revamp
As the new Premiership season nears, Kaizer Chiefs are preparing a squad overhaul under head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The club has made significant moves to strengthen their lineup, including the acquisition of goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari and defenders Rushwin Dortley, Bongani Sam, and Inacio Miguel.
With Brandon Petersen recovering from a finger injury, Ntwari is poised to start in goal. He could potentially securing the number one spot over Bafana Bafana’s Bruce Bvuma. Sources confirm that Nabi supported Ntwari’s signing. Indicating he will have the chance to prove his worth as the season begins.
Chiefs will likely choose Reeve Frosler as their first-choice right flank player. While central defence might see Msimango paired with Miguel. Dortley could step in as left-back, particularly as Sam and Edmilson Dove continue their recovery from injuries.
Kaizer Chiefs need to positioning themselves for a strong season, with a revamped squad aimed at achieving top honours.
