Kaizer Chiefs pull out on Congolese striker
Kaizer Chiefs will not be signing Congolese striker Fiston Mayele despite links
Amakhosi were said to be interested in Mayele but his club Pyramids confirmed that they were not selling their star. The Congolese striker scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 27 matches for his team Pyramids. Before his move to Egypt, the 30-year-old striker played for Young Africans under current Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi.
It appears that Amakhosi might secure Mayele’s services. Nabi has expressed his desire to sign him but due to his unavailability, the move won’t happen
“It’s the same situation [not being able to sign] with Fiston Mayele. He’s like family to me; we worked well together [at Young Africans],” Nabi said as per FARPost.
“But he has a contract with Pyramids and is unavailable. We respect that and have not engaged in any negotiations.”
Mayele’s agent Yasmin Mudele said the striker would have loved to reunite with Nabi at Kaizer Chiefs.
“We have Nabi there [at Kaizer Chiefs], who’s our favourite coach. However, the situation is that the player has a contract, and Pyramids are not willing to release him,” Mudele told FARPost.
Kaizer Chiefs and Nabi to lose out on top striker
“As much as Mayele would love to play for Nabi, Nabi is one of our favourite coaches; we love him. He’s a nice person [but it’s impossible]… They worked really well together. But the reality is that he’s under contract,” said the agent.
Kaizer Chiefs might look elsewhere for a quality striker before the Betway Premiership kick off.
Where should Amakhosi go next for a new striker?
