Kaizer Chiefs star Dolly slams salary rumours

Kaizer Chiefs star Keagan Dolly slams salary rumours saying, “I would be on a beach if that were true.”

Former Chiefs captain Dolly has vehemently denied media reports claiming he earned a staggering R1 million monthly salary during his tenure at Naturena. Dolly, who joined Chiefs from Montpellier in July 2021, is setting the record straight on these inflated salary rumours.

In an exclusive interview with Robert Marawa on MSW on 947, Keagan Dolly dismissed the sensational claim that he was taking home R1 million a month. Dolly responded to Marawa’s query about the rumoured salary, saying, “Never! I wish. If I was, I would’ve been on a beach right now,” Dolly said as quoted by iDiski Times. His reaction underscores the implausibility of the reported figure.

Clarifying Montpellier salary rumours

The rumours about Dolly’s salary at Montpellier, reportedly comparable to the rumoured amount at Chiefs, also sparked confusion. Dolly questioned the validity of these claims, asking, “But who said I earned a million in Montpellier?” He expressed surprise at the exaggerated figures circulating online, saying, “There was a story on Twitter/X one day that I was earning R1.4 million, and I was shocked as well.”

Dolly admitted that these salary rumours have had an adverse effect on his career. He noted, “A lot of people did [believe he was earning R1 million]. That’s why I say, that adds more pressure on me.” He explained that the inflated salary claims created unrealistic expectations, leading him to feel as though he had to perform beyond his role. “I felt like doing everyone else’s role and forgetting about playing my own game,” Dolly added.

Pressure of high salary expectations

Dolly revealed that the misconception of a high salary contributed to increased pressure to exceed expectations. “Every time I step on the training field or step onto the playing field, I have to handle myself this way because people expect that from the highest paid player,” he explained. This added pressure detracted from his ability to focus on his own performance and gameplay.

Keagan Dolly’s clarification brings clarity to the inflated salary rumours and highlights the impact such myths can have on a player’s professional life.
