Rigged? Chidimma’s Miss Universe Nigeria win raises suspicions
Scores of Nigerians are accusing the Miss Universe Nigeria organisers, SilverBird Group of favouring Chidimma Adetshina over other contestants to win the title.
The 23-year-old – a last-minute entrant – took the crown in a shock move at the pageant finale on Saturday, 31 August.
Was the competition rigged from the moment she accepted the invitation?
NIGERIANS ACCUSE MISS UNIVERSE OF RIGGING PAGEANT IN CHIDIMMA’S FAVOUR
Just three weeks after accepting an invitation to participate in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, Chidimma Adetshina was crowned the winner.
For many, organisers clearly favourite the Cape Town model, who had stepped down as a Miss SA finalist amid an investigation by the Department of Home Affairs over allegations of identity fraud
Chidimma – who previously revealed that she only had a Nigerian passport – also claimed she would not have entered the pageant had she not been invited.
Since her crowning, Nigerians on social media have accused organisers of rigging the pageant in her favour.
@luu_oma: “She’s undeserving. She has never lived in Nigeria and was merely invited to compete after the final delegates had been chosen. Her family is also currently being invested for identity fraud in South Africa. She arrived in Nigeria for the first time after 20 years last week, only to be given our crown. The organization was biased.”
@marveyr: “Some girls actually went through the due process and auditioned, and you people gave the crown to someone who didn’t even choose to represent you in the first place. Is that a way of telling the other girls that they’re not good enough?”.
@DanielRegha: “Honestly speaking, it just feels too predictable & so wrong that Chidimma, who became a contestant at the last minute, is being crowned the winner of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. Other contestants didn’t really stand a chance the moment she entered the competition, and that’s the truth”.
THAT SUSPICIOUS CLIP
Also fuelling rumours Miss Universe Nigeria was “rigged” was a clip that was seemingly accidentally aired of Chidimma Adetshina claiming she had made the Top 5 before the announcement was made.
Interestingly, there was no other “confessional” for other contestants who made it to the Top 5.

MISS KWARA’S FANS ARE NOT HAPPY EITHER
Fan favourite Miss Kwara Ufa Dania’s early exit was also a bone of contention among Miss Universe Nigeria viewers.
Ufa had accumulated the most votes, fast-tracking her to the Top 10 of the pageant. However, the plus-size, body-positive woman was seemingly given the cold shoulder when it came to the Top 5.
Many South Africans – who supported Miss Kwara – believe she did not make the cut to “spite” the country.
