Fan recounts ‘worst’ Ellis Park experience
A South African rugby fan who purchased tickets to watch the Springboks play the All Blacks at Ellis Park (now Emirates Airline Park) has complained about being issued duplicate tickets to the match.
The 62 000 seater stadium was filled to capacity for the highly-anticipated game, which the Boks won 31-7.
South Africa and New Zealand will play again on Saturday, 7 September, at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
ELLIS PARK RUGBY FAN SHARES ‘WORST’ EXPERIENCE
In a TikTok video, rugby fan Mandisa N revealed how Ellis Park stadium-goers had fallen prey to duplicate or possibly counterfeit tickets.
She said: “I bought tickets to sit on a staircase. It’s not about the money; it’s about the experience. I saw a lot of people standing on the staircases.
Mandisa revealed she spent a substantial part of the game looking for her seats. But when she eventually found her block, she claimed: “People were drunk and sitting everywhere.”
@mandisa_nd This is literally my worst #rugby experience. I had to make the most of the situation while sitting on the stairs because I’ve been really looking forward to this game and there was no use for me to sulk the whole game. I’m not sure what measures there are at the stadium when scanning tickets bought on illegitimate sites, but clearly it didn’t work cause there were duplicate tickets and people still entered the stadium. As I said, it’s not about the money, it’s the experience. #rugby #savsnz #bokrugby #springboksrugby #allblacks ♬ original sound – mandisa_nd
Mandisa claims that it was an issue of duplicate or counterfeit tickets.
She continued: “We just standing…[we didnt want to] miss the game. We paid money to watch the game and bought tickets way back in April.
“This was my dream come true [to watch the All Blacks play]. To get there and have such a horrible experience, I couldn’t keep it in. I started crying at the stadium.”
Judging from the comment section, others had similar struggles at Ellis Park.
@issa.loops: “We had the same experience”
@basetsanashilaye: “The security guards made me walk around the entire stadium because they couldn’t help.”
@pabi_: “Security doesn’t care. Lion management helped us with seats, but it was in the last 10 minutes of the game.”
