Good news! Fuel prices to drop at midnight on Tuesday
South African motorists can breathe a sigh of relief as fuel prices drop yet again.
Fuel prices across the broad will decrease in September for the fourth consecutive month in 2024, according to the Automobile Association(AA). Both grades of petrol to decrease by 92 cents per litre from midnight on Tuesday
The wholesale price of diesel is expected to decrease by around 76c/l, while the cost of illuminating paraffin will drop by almost R1.01c/l.
Fuel Prices to drop for the fourth consecutive month
“The reason for this welcome news is the perfect combination of a strengthening Rand/US Dollar exchange rate since the middle of August, and significantly lower international oil prices which dipped around mid-August and increased the over recovery on the fuel prices in the period under review,” the AA said.
The association said the lower fuel prices were good news for all consumers.
“Apart from the immediate impact of buying cheaper fuel, input costs across various sectors are not impacted by higher fuel costs. At a time when most South Africans are still struggling to make ends meet, this is welcome news for all.”
Those filling up a small car with around 30 litres of petrol could save around R27.60 from Wednesday, while a 50 litre refuel in a larger vehicle will cost R46 less.
Both petrol and diesel will see massive decreases at the pumps from midnight on Tuesday, 3 September.
