Orlando Pirates ‘new signing’ to save them millions in the market

Orlando Pirates have a returning star who could save them a lot of money in this and subsequent transfer windows.

Orlando Pirates will eventually sell Makgopa, or Mabasa, or both

The Sea Robbers want something in the region of R30 million if/when they eventually sell Bafana Bafana striker Evidence Makgopa. The move seems inevitable if he continues to warm the bench for Tshegofatso Mabasa. Outside of 27-year-old Mabasa, however, Pirates are looking even further down the line for a place that could eventually fill Makgopa’s boots. Remember that Makgopa is just 24 so now could be the ideal time to cash in as his value peaks.

Is Radiopane the next Mabasa or Makgopa?

22-year-old Boitumelo Radiopane has returned to Pirates after a loan spell with Cape Town Spurs. The young striker made nine appearances in the league for the Mother City side last term and one outing in the Nedbank Cup. The Sebokeng-born forward is highly regarded by the Buccaneers and could feature in cup competitions this term. ‘Radioman’ also spent the 2022-2023 campaign with Spurs after top scoring in the 2021-2022 Diski Challenge with 24 goals. Can his prolific ways at the DDC level translate into goals in the senior side? We’ll be following his progress closely.

Pirates ‘ flop’ could be Bafana material

Chippa head coach Kwanele Kopo and assistant Thabo September know about working with youngsters. Azola Matrose, who’s had two stints with Orlando Pirates, made 30 league appearances for The Chilli Boys across the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 campaigns.

Jose Riveiro’s team also won two major honours, beating Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 finals.
