Malusi Booi’s co-accused in R1 billion Cape tender fraud case gunned down
Fraud and corruption-accused Mitchells Plain construction boss Abdul Kader Davids, who was charged alongside former City of Cape Town housing MMC and Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Malusi Booi, has been shot dead.
The Cape Town Magistrate’s Court granted Davids bail of R250 000 on Tuesday, 17 September.
MALUSI BOOI CO-ACCUSED SHOT DEAD
Davids was gunned down in a hail of bullets in Beacon Valley on Thursday night while walking in Ascot Street at around 21:00.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the Western Cape Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie said preliminary reports suggest that unknown gunmen opened fire on the 42-year-old victim who was declared deceased by medical personnel who attended to the scene.
“The motive for this murder is now the subject of an investigation by the South African Police Service. Mitchells Plain police registered a murder case for further investigation,” Pojie said.
FORMER CAPE TOWN MMC APPEARS IN COURT
Malusi Booi and his nine co-accused including his ex-wife are accused of being involved in eight tenders amounting to R1 billion tenders that were unlawfully rewarded within the City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements directorate.
Booi appeared at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court and was granted bail of R250 000.
He appeared with his ex-wife Nomvuyo Mnyaka, former girlfriend Lorna Ndoda, former Cape Town public housing director Siphokazi September, and co-accused, Mohammed Amod, Randall Mullins, Suraya Manual, Brenda Mullins, Thuli Imgibi, and Abdul-Kader Davids.
Initially, Booi was suspended on 16 March 2023 and was fired 23 March 2023 following a search and seizure operation by the South African Police Service (SAPS).
