Asanele Velebayi’s agent gives insight into failed Chiefs transfer
Asanele Velebayi’s agent, Lance Davids gives insight into the failed Kaizer Chiefs transfer.
The PSL transfer window officially closed on September 20, 2024, and fans are buzzing about Asanele Velebayi’s decision to remain with Cape Town Spurs. The highly-rated winger attracted significant interest from Kaizer Chiefs, but negotiations faltered due to stark differences in valuation between the two clubs.
Disappointment for CT Spurs Chairman
Cape Town Spurs chairman Alexi Efstathiou expressed his dissatisfaction with Chiefs’ offers. He stated that they fell “significantly below Velebayi’s true value.” Efstathiou highlighted the club’s substantial investment in Velebayi’s development and praised his exceptional talent on the field.
Velebayi’s standout performances last season captured the attention of the Soweto giants. He played in 24 matches, contributing one goal and one assist while wearing the Urban Warriors’ colours. However, despite his efforts, the Cape club faced relegation back to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after just one season in the top flight.
Agent Insights: Failed Chiefs transfer explained
Lance Davids, Velebayi’s agent, shared insights about the unsuccessful transfer during an appearance on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube. He explained the back-and-forth negotiations, saying. “Chiefs put in an offer and the value was too low for Cape Town Spurs.”
Despite a second, more competitive offer from Chiefs, Davids stated. “They thought that their valuation was low and then they stopped just there.” He emphasised the disparity in valuation between Velebayi and other players like Oswin Appollis, asserting. “You can’t compare Oswin Appollis to Velebayi at this point.”
Professionalism amidst transfer speculation
Davids acknowledged the challenges players face during such negotiations. He noted. “If the buying and selling club don’t come to an agreement, it just won’t happen.” He reassured everyone of Velebayi’s professionalism, stating. “He scored a goal today… that’s the mentality.” As the club captain, Velebayi continues to showcase his dedication to Cape Town Spurs.
Despite the disappointment of the recent failed transfer, Davids remains optimistic about future opportunities. “The next window will come up in the next three, four months,” he mentioned, hinting at ongoing interest from Chiefs. He expressed hope that Velebayi’s consistency will elevate his value further.
What did Chiefs offer and what did Spurs want?
“Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million for Asanele(Velebayi), they came down to R10 million and the valuation was still too high. Kaizer Chiefs offered R5 million plus players,” concluded Lance Davids at Football first.
These figures and offers are the exact numbers and valuations that The South African exclusively reported previously.
