Did Kaizer Chiefs try to dribble AmaZulu for Hanamub in exchange for unwanted star?
Kaizer Chiefs reportedly wanted to offer their midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa to AmaZulu in order to obtain Riaan Hanamub for less.
The Usuthu left-back was linked to Amakhosi for several months before he extended his stay with the KZN-based team. It was reported that AmaZulu turned down Kaizer Chiefs offer for Hanamub demanding 8 million for the Namibian defender.
According to Soccer Laduma, the Glamour Boys proposed R4 million plus Mthethwa but that fell short of Usuthu’s expectations.
“There was an offer from Kaizer Chiefs for Riaan (Hanamub) which AmaZulu FC were considering, but things changed when Chiefs asked for a player swap plus money for Hanamub.”
“If Chiefs had managed to pay the R8 million without involving the swap deal with Ox, they could have signed Hanamub before even considering Cross from Golden Arrows,” a source told Soccer Laduma.
Earlier this month, AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu confirmed that the Kaizer Chiefs target signed a new contract.
“Yes, he has signed a new contract with us, which is for a further three years,” Zungu told SABC Sport.
“We never received an offer in writing. This contract (for Hanamub) was something already in the pipeline.”
Kaizer Chiefs failed to reach a deal with AmaZulu for Hanamub
Having failed to sign Hanamub, Chiefs moved on and reached a deal with another KZN side for Bradley Cross. The 23-year-old was named man of the man on his debut match against Marumo Gallants this past weekend. Amakhosi are in action on Wednesday evening against Riaan Hanamub’s team.
