Hugo Broos names Bafana squad for Congo AFCON qualifiers


Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has named a 32-member preliminary squad for next month’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Congo.

Hugo Broos’s charges face the Congolese in Gqeberha on Friday, 11 October (19:00), and then travel to Congo to play the return match at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat on Tuesday, 15 October (18:00 SA time).

The final 23-member squad will be announced in the next few days.

SAFA will communicate ticket information this week. 

Rankings

Bafana Bafana have been drawn against Uganda, Congo and South Sudan in Group K in qualifying for AFCON 2025.

The two top finishers will qualify for the tournament to be hosted in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026.

South Africa are ranked 59th in the latest FIFA rankings with Uganda in 90th place and Congo in 117th.

South Sudan are 172nd.

In Bafana Bafana’s opening two matches they drew 2-2 against Uganda at home and followed that up with a 3-2 away win over South Sudan.
