Why I left Mamelodi Sundowns

Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Thabiso Kutumela has given the reasons for deciding to leave Kabo Yellow.

THABISO KUTUMELA ON SUNDOWNS CAREER

The 31-year-old from Mokopane, Polokwane began his DStv Premiership career at Baroka FC in 2011 before moving to Orlando Pirates in 2016. Kutumela soon moved to Martizburg United to restart his career.

He became one of the best strikers in the league when Mamelodi Sundowns came calling. Kutumela soon left Kabo Yellow before joining Cape Town City on loan last season. The forward’s new home is Richards Bay FC.

Speaking after leaving Sundowns last winter, Kutumela says he started to fall out of love with football.

“I was not disappointed to leave Sundowns because I was coming from loan, and I’m the one who requested for the loan move,” Kutumela told FARPost.

“My first season with Sundowns, I played, and we won MTN8, Nedbank Cup and the league. The following season I got injuries and the third season I told myself that I want to go on loan because it’s not nice to sit on the bench.

“I was starting to lose love and interest in football; I didn’t like that because I love football, and this is what I know. The best thing was just for me to go on loan.

“So when I saw that they’re releasing me, I thanked God and myself because imagine if I didn’t go on loan and sat on the bench for two seasons, it was going to be hard for me to get a team.

“For me, it was just a matter of planning for the future because some things you have to plan for yourself. Don’t just relax and say I have a contract without planning for the future.

“I was also looking at the fact that players who leave Sundowns after struggling for game-time, it becomes difficult to find a team because you are not match fit,” Kutumela concluded.

SUPERSPORT UNITED SIGN ABUBEKER NASSIR FROM MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United have completed another deal. Abubeker Nassir has moved to Matsatsantsa a Pitori.

Following a long term injury and struggle for game time, the 24-year-old Ethiopian has joined SuperSport on a season-long loan deal. The move was confirmed by Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi on Tuesday via iDiski Times.

“Nasir is not at Sundowns at the moment and I think he’s at SuperSport,” he stated after his side’s 4-1 win over Marumo Gallants when asked about Nasir’s whereabouts.

“I thought you should know that.”

MANQOBA MNGQITHI SUPPORTS PETER SHALULILE

Mamelodi Sundowns supporters could not imagine this. Peter Shalulile has not scored a goal after starting six matches. According to coach Manqoba Mngqithi, the 30-year-old Namibia is more than a goalscorer for Kabo Yellow.

“To answer you on Peter, I was impressed with the effort he put into the game and that is the reason we will always support him, no matter what, because he never lacks giving the team everything he has,” said Mngqithi via Sowetan.

“When he is not scoring, it is the time for us as the technical team and the whole club to support him in his endeavours to come back. He is still going to be important for us this season.

“The reason we also decided to play him in the second leg was to try to give him the confidence so that he could bury one goal. We know that once he has scored the one goal, this thing will open up again and his confidence will be back.

“But there were a lot of positive things in his game and he was just unfortunate not to be able to score,” the Sundowns mentor concluded.
