‘It’s going to be a problem at Bafana’ – Ex-Sundowns star on Mokoena and Mudau’s situation

Former Bafana bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star Katlego Mphela has added his thoughts on the drama involving Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Khuliso Mudau and Teboho Mokoena.

The two have been left out of Manqoba Mngqithi’s squad in the past four games. When asked why the Bafana duo were not playing, the Sundowns coach said it a matter of rotating the squad.

Mphela feels the absence of Mokoena and Mudau could affect Bafana Bafanas in the long run.

“I think it depends on who is available and which position you are talking about,” Mphela told Soccer Laduma.

“If you are talking about a defender, I think there are so many defenders who are on form now and can come in. You are talking about Tebza’s position as well, you see that there are young guys who are doing well in that position.

Bafana duo of Mokoena and Mudau missing in action?

“The coach can get away with selecting them in one or two games, but it [the results] would have to go his way. If he doesn’t get results, it’s going to be a problem,” Mphela said.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos named both Mudau and Mokoena in his 33-man preliminary squad. Killer believes them not featuring for their club will affect the national team

“The fact that they are not playing at club level now could also affect their performances if the coach decides to call them.

“But it happens all over the world where coaches sometimes select players who may not be playing much, like [Harry Maguire] with England.

“The coaches always have these players that they believe in, but it could affect them because they are not playing,” Mphela added.

The former Bafana striker said Mokoena and Mudau needed to show Manqoba Mngqithi that they could still play.

Should Broos select the Downs duo in his final 23-man squad?
