Kaizer Chiefs break silence on Mamelodi Sundowns’ win

Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs are making headlines after their 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday at the FNB Stadium.

Undoubtedly, this was one of the league’s biggest showdowns of the weekend.

NABI: ‘I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT REFEREES

Ranga Chivaviro opened the scoring in the 10th minute to give Kaizer Chiefs an early lead. However, Lucas Ribeiro and Iqraam Rayners overturned Ranga Chivaviro’s opener.

But Mamelodi Sundowns’ second goal came after a contentious offside in the build-up, and pundits believe the goal should have been ruled offside.

Several pundits, including Teko Modise and Robert Marawa, have since revealed that it was offside and that the referee might have made a wrong decision.

After the controversial goal, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nabi even asked the referee to check the goal on their monitor, but he quickly turned down the request.

However, Kaizer Chiefs levelled matters in the 94th minute, but the goal was ruled out. Castillo managed to beat Rowen Williams but couldn’t beat the officials.

After the final match, there was a heavy police presence at the FNB. Officials were pelted with objects as they walked off the pitch.

Speaking after the match, Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi refused to comment on the match officials’ performance.

He said, “I don’t want to talk about referees. It’s not my speciality, and the specialist analyst talks about referees.”

KAIZER CHIEFS REACT TO MAMELODI SUNDOWNS’ WIN

Soon after the referee controversially ruled out Edison Castillo’s goal, Kaizer Chiefs posted two cryptic posts. The posts have gained thousands of comments and reactions since dropping online.

However, the Soweto giants couldn’t let this slide. Amakhosi took to X, formerly Twitter, to take a swipe at Sundowns seemingly and the match officials.

On X, a GIF showing a man not pleased with the decision was posted, and the second GIF had the text ‘Disappointed but not surprised.’

MZANSI REACTS

Against the posts, Kaizer Chiefs fans were quick to flood social media with their two cents. An X user commented, “We have improved Khosi. Unfortunately, they were 12 in the field.”

Another added, “Sundowns should thank that offside goal and referee.”

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi won his first two games. With his first two wins, he became one of the few Amakhosi coaches to win his first two fixtures.

According to reports, he became the first Kaizer Chiefs coach to win a season opener since 2009.
