Dlamini’s late free kick secures win for Orlando Pirates

Kabelo Dlamini‘s late goal was enough for Orlando Pirates to secure all three points at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.

The Buccaneers defeated Richards Bay 1-0 to win their Betway Premiership in a row. The win sees Jose Riveiro’s men maintain a perfect win record in league football while remaining unbeaten across competitions.

Looking to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns at the top, Orlando Pirates started the match with intent but Richards Bay’s defence proved solid early on, denying Tshegofatso Mabasa who went for goal after linking up with Relebohile Mofokeng eight minutes in.

The home side remained resilient for much of the match as they kept the Buccaneers at bay. Although the away side had more of the possession, the Natal Rich Boyz had a few chances to take the lead.

Orlando Pirates put pressure on Sundowns at the top

Justice Figuareido hit back with an effort of his own at the other end, catching the ball on the half-volley from deep inside the Bucs penalty area only to draw a fantastic save from Sipho Chaine.

A late set piece handed the Buccaneers a golden opportunity with nine minutes of regulation time remaining. This was after second-half substitute Kabelo Dlamini was brought down just outside the penalty area.

The midfielder produced a trademark stunner which left Otieno motionless on its way to rattling the net for the game’s opener. The Natal Rich Boyz pushed for an equaliser but the Orlando Pirates defence remained solid.
