‘Zulu on My Stoep’ producer André Scholtz has passed away


Celebrated film producer Andries “André” Scholtz has passed away at the age of 79.

According to Bizcommunity, the Zulu on My Stoep co-producer died peacefully on 30 September at his Cape Town home.

According to reports, the Scholtz family confirmed the news in a press statement.

The family statement read: “André’s extraordinary career and contributions to the industry have left an indelible mark, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew and worked with him …

“His family kindly requests privacy during this difficult time as they come to terms with their heartbreaking loss.”

With André Scholtz’s family yet to confirm his cause of death, online reports have it that he lost his battle with cancer.

Despite keeping his private life under wraps, leaving many to guess, The South African has established that André Scholtz left behind his wife, Riana, five children, and seven grandchildren.

CAREER

With an illustrious career spanning years, he had fast become one of the most sought-after film producers in South Africa.

André Scholtz’s career spanned over five decades. During this time, he produced and co-produced over 30 feature films. Some of his notable productions include PawPaw for My Darling.

André Scholtz also produced several sequences in the Oh Shucks franchisework, working alongside his long-time friend Leo Schuster.

One of their biggest productions was the Zulu on My Stoep. The film is one of the highest-grossing South African films in the country’s box office history.

He also worked with Leon Schuster on Mr. Bones 3: Son of Bones.

TRIBUTES POUR IN FOR SEASONED FILM PRODUCER

Fans, media organisations, and outlets have taken to social media to pay tribute to the veteran producer.

Director and film producer Anant Singh said, “We are saddened by the passing of pioneering South African film producer André Scholtz. We are privileged to have worked with André on several films.

The South African Film and Television Awards said: “André was a visionary in the film industry, widely known for his decades-long collaboration with Leon Schuster, producing over 20 films that have become iconic in South African cinema.

“He was not only a highly accomplished professional but also a passionate mentor to many young filmmakers, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations.”
