More rain predicted in Gauteng, Mpumalanga on Monday

The South African Weather Services says more rain is predicted on Monday in Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

On Sunday, the SAWS issued a Yellow level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of Johannesburg on Sunday. The warning also applies to greater Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the southern parts of Limpopo.

Scattered to widespread showers and thundershowers are expected over the central and eastern parts of the country, with a possibility of severe thunderstorms & disruptive rain along the east coast.

Temperatures in Gauteng are expected to drop to 19 on Monday as rain persists in most parts.

“Thunderstorms are expected to result in heavy rainfall and possible significant impacts over parts of the Highveld of Mpumalanga (accumulations of 40 to 100mm possible near Ermelo, Carolina, Amsterdam, Hendrina) which will lead to flooding today (Sunday).

Rain to disrupt on Monday in Gauteng, warns weather service

“On Monday, showers and thundershowers are likely to continue over Gauteng and parts of Mpumalanga with a low probability of significant impacts,” the forecaster warned.

While Gauteng and the northern part of the country are experiencing rain, it is not as major as predicted by SAWS, unlike in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape. Disruptive rain could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

“The South African Weather Service will continue to monitor any further developments relating to this
weather system and will issue subsequent updates as required. Furthermore, the public is urged and
encouraged to regularly follow weather forecasts on television and radio. “

Are we going to have more rain this spring compared to last year?
